Sabbatical Harder Than Me

Hey there! Happy mid-week to all of you, I'm in the middle of a sabbatical, and since I've gotten so many questions about everything, I figured I'd take a minute to esssssplain the whos, whats, and whys of this week off.

It's been planned for a while, since it's 'up-fronts' season and there isn't a whole lot going on production-wise during these couple of weeks. There really wasn't much for me to do, so I planned this week to have a chance to catch my breath a bit and reboot the hard drive so to speak. It's not vacation, because I'm still definitely working, but it's working on MY stuff exclusively. After this last weekend in Chicago, I am definitely ready to get things on the fast track, and I can only do that by upping the game as far as my own content goes. So I've been outlining, planning, doing a bit of a rebrand, and making lists of priorities. Most importantly, I don't have to do my hair and makeup all week, so I won't. The world is just gonna have to deal.

A lot of people panicked today when I mentioned the rebrand on Instagram, but it really isn't a huge deal. It was suggested to me to make my Instagram presence more intentional, and take the 'sitting in my car complaining' part of things over to Snapchat, since that's actually the place for that. A lot of people just copy and paste one to the other, and I HAAAAAATE that. I find it lazy, and treating your followers like idiots. But running both platforms is kind of a pain. So instead of creating more work for myself, I'm just being smarter about where to place my content. I'll also be cleaning up my Twitter presence, because my demographic as so drastically changed in the last year. So put away the fainting couches, nothing is really happening.

I am so fortunate that I can do this, because I was hanging on by my fingernails by the middle of the day on Friday, and I did snap out a bit. I think it was just a combination of stress, fatigue, and anxiety about going to Chicago that made me say, "Eff ALLLLLL Y'ALLL!" at 11am and spend the rest of the day eating Cuban food with Louis. I simply hit a limit.

A few days in, my sleep has fixed itself, and I feel like I have the second wind I need going into next week. It's also kind of exciting to get to brainstorm new projects, put my skates on, have fun, and spend some quality time with my dogs, aka the world's neediest coworkers.

Chicago went well for those who may have been concerned about that. The first day was rough, but my friends rallied and made it good. Sunday, my oldest made things happen, and it was great. Sure, I cried my eyes out at the airport because I'm sick of living a fractured life on the road, but I had this sabbatical waiting for me, so it was good timing. I couldn't imagine coming off of that and hitting the ground running Monday morning.

So for the rest of the week, I'll take care of myself, sharpen the creative saw, and get ready for the week ahead. Next week takes me to Vancouver, NYC, and back again to Chicago. I get a break this week, but This Crazy Road Life REFUSES to quit!
